Origin and purpose
This site originated in 2015 as a re-development of an earlier site, www.sermononthemount.org.uk, with the aim of making it fully
accessible to users trying to access it on mobile and hand-held devices. This re-development also took advantage of technological
innovations to provided more contextual mark-up to assist search engines and non-visual browsers. It was also considered desirable to move
to its new domain name, which, with its .info suffix, better reflects the information dissemination objectives of the site.
The site www.sermononthemount.org.uk was born in 2006, as an attempt to make available the results of several years of personal research
into the Sermon on the Mount. Initially its focused on publicising some common-sense approaches to the Sermon that, despite their
interpretative power, seem to have escaped the textbooks. These included the idea that it was a rallying speech, the concept that its
focus was on the Way of Righteousness, and the notion that the structure of the antitheses reflected the latter five of the Ten
Commandments. Since then it has continued to grow, by the accretion of additional background, and by further exploration of some of those
original ideas.
